How do I book my lesson?
For lesson availability please click here to see our calendar. We try to keep the calendar as up to date as possible to show our availability for future lessons, as well as showing bookings that have been made and by whom. Then call us on 0845 2694093 to book your lesson. If you have not yet bought a lesson voucher, this can be done over the phone at the time of booking – please note, we do not take bookings by email.
Where will my lesson be held?
All lessons in kiting are subject to the weather, and for water based lessons, the tide also. As such we must change location to suit. This means our cancellation rate is lower than schools on fixed locations. Our main locations are Burnham on Sea, Weston Super Mare and Porthcawl. Where possible, we will try and book you in at the closest beach.
When do you teach?
Summer season (July-October). From The start of July we teach 7 days a week and for as long as there is sunlight.
Winter Season (November – June) In the winter we operate on weekends, though various weekdays are sometimes available. Between November and April we do NOT run beginners kitesurfing lessons due to extensive time spent in the cold water. Advanced kitesurfing lessons can still be booked. Timings of lessons vary, start times being dependent on the tide.
What if there is no wind?
If there is no wind we will endeavour to reschedule you for another day when space is available. If you are on holiday, we recommend that you book your lesson at the beginning of your trip so that you have other days to fall back on if the conditions are not good. All lessons are run on a voucher system giving the student a full 12 months to complete the lesson.
What should I bring?
We provide all essential equipment. However, it is recommended that you bring: A warm change of clothing, waterproofs, suitable footwear (trainers/boots), sun cream/sunglasses, lunch and refreshments and your booking/gift voucher. NO VOUCHER = NO LESSON.
NB: Though we try to cater for all, our equipment is sized small – Extra Large and we can not guarantee a perfect fit. We recommend that if you have your own wetsuit, bring it.
Do I need to take out personal insurance ?
No. Blown Away Kite School has full public liability insurance to cover your course. However if you are considering taking up any kite sport, IKO or BKSA membership is recommended.
Can I bring my own equipment on the course?
Yes! However, an instructor will need to ensure that is suitable for the conditions on the day. During a group lesson it is advisable to use school equipment unless you are happy for others on the lesson to use your kit.
Are there any age restrictions?
There are no minimum age requirements for kite sports but for BKSA/IKO courses we recommend a minimum age of 12 due to the amount of theory. For land based activities, participation is dependent on height/weight and wind conditions. If children are participating on a group course we will try and match their height/weight with a suitable partner, if this is not possible 1:1 tuition might be required and will be an additional cost. For kitesurfing, under 18′s are required to have their parent/legal guardian present for the full duration of the lesson.
Is it safe?
All our instructors are fully IKO qualified, are very experienced and hold current water based first aid and power boat qualifications. We offer a very high standard of tuition and adhere to strict safety regulations and operating procedures including the use of the latest equipment with the most up to date safety systems. For kitesurfing lessons we only operate on cross onshore/onshore winds which means you will never be learning in water out of your depth.
