Team Rider Josh Wins again!

On Sunday 25th March 2012 Team Rider Josh Hough took part in the SWATK Connor Endurance Team Race at Brean Sands with his father. The weather was bright and dry with barely a breath of wind. Perfect for Josh on his Flysurfer Speed 3 21m!!

At the start the team were a bit apprehensive sat in the pit area in their Flexifoil kite buggies, surrounded by race buggies with disk wheels, racing boards and various race kites.

However….

At the arrival of 12:15pm the 3 hour race was underway, wind blowing no more than a massive 3- 4 mph cross off-shore. In fact due to the massive lack of wind, at times Josh was the only one with the right kit (and skill) to be moving with his 21m Flysurfer Speed 3. Towards the end of the race the winds picked up to 10mph and they managed to win by a HUGE margin of 10 miles! Impressive despite the conditions!

All involved had a great day out at a really well organised event and we all met lots of new faces which we hope to see on the scene in times to come.

Better still, Josh says that he and his father would love to enter again next year to retain the title….. and are crossing their fingers, just hoping for more light winds!

CONNOR RACE EVENT

What Is The Connor Endurance Event

The reason the Connor Endurance Event is held each year is because of a 13 year Old SWATK (South West Area Traction Kiting) member called Connor.

Connor sadly passed away in 2010, from a terminal illness, Connor loved power kiting with his grand-dad, he always had fun and fully enjoyed this sport.

SWATK hold this event to remember him and why we all do this, for the fun of it, the friends we make, the sheer thrill and exhilaration we all feel, when Power Kiting.

This is not a sad event but a joyful remembrance of Connor, even though there is an element of competition, this event is about FUN, enjoying our chosen sport.

This event is free but SWATK will be holding a sweepstake, raffle and donations for the free cakes. There is no pressure to donate anything and that is not the purpose of this event, SWATK leave this open to your-selves.

All proceeds go to the families chosen charity setup in Connors name.

Race Events Details

Where is it:

Brean Beach

When is it:

Saturday 24th March – Practice day (if you can make it)
Sunday 25th March – 3 Hour Team Endurance Event
Event times will follow later

Teams:

Two Members per team, Team can be two buggiers or two boarders. Your Team must have a GPS to take part.

Rules

This is a team event of at least two members in each team.
The full rules will be explained on the day
However, overflying of the posts will result in an instant disqualification.
The pit area will be marked off and use will be explained on the day.
The idea is to complete as many miles on the day and it is very open as to how teams are made up.
Each team will require a valid GPS to score miles.
To encourage all team members to participate there will be a minimum of three changeovers.
There will be a practice day on Saturday and early on the Sunday. Please see race officials.

Classes

Master Buggy Class - Any team of two buggiers where one has raced for the PKA and is in the Master Class or if in the Novice Class, has had decent finish placing’s over a Season. Anyone we feel is at that level. If your team member is in the Buggy Class and you are in the Master Buggy Class, you will still be put in the Master Buggy Class.
Buggy Class - All other teams of two buggiers.
Board Class - Two boarders who make up a team.

Prizes

The Connor Trophy will go to the furthest distance, by the team in the Buggy Class or Boarder Class (Returned to SWATK before Next Event, Connor Endurance Event 2013)
Each Class winner will receive a Prize.
Plus best overall effort will receive a prize.

Kitesurfing Lessons now running!

Following good wind and continually mild weather, we are now taking bookings and running ADVANCED and SUPERVISED lessons on weekends.

If you are working on your water start or are riding and trying to progress, we are now able to teach – provided you have your own WINTER wetsuit, including BOOTS and GLOVES!

Unfortunately the water is still too cold for normal lessons. Though we will happily pass on advice if you come down. We can not yet offer tuition for anyone who is likely to be submerged for long periods of time.

We are proud to announce Josh Hough as the latest, and greatest new addition to the team. Josh is the 2011 BKSA Freestyle Buggy Champion, and will be at all of this year’s events showing the best moves and promoting the sport in fantastic style.

LIVING SOCIAL DISCOVERY kitesurfing and INTRO power kite lesson vouchers expired as of the 31st January 2012. If you have not already booked an administration fee of £15 will be payable for each person being booked for the Summer 2012.

To book either a DISCOVERY kitesurf lesson or an INTRO Power Kite Lesson please call us on 0845 2694093. Limited booking dates are still available from around June/July until the end of Septemeber.

UPGRADES:
When you call to book your DISCOVERY kitesurfing lesson, you can upgrade to include the water based elements from the INTERMEDIATE lesson for just £50 per person– a 50% saving! Likewise, you can upgrade your INTRO lesson to the ADVANCED power kite lesson for just £20 per person!

IMPORTANT:
Should you choose to upgrade your kitesurfing or power kite lesson the £15 per person admin fee will be waived.

BKSA / IKO Kitesurfing Instructor for Summer 2012

We’re looking for one, maybe two, outstanding kitesurfing instructors for the summer season from June until September – perfect for a dedicated uni student or similar.

Work will vary with the weather as always, guaranteed busy weekends (as we are already fully booked on weekends!) with flexibility in the week, should you want to kite yourself.

You MUST have:

Minimum of BKSA or IKO Level 1 Kitesurfing Certificate (preferably level 2)
Experience of working in varied weather conditions
Current valid First Aid certificate
Valid IKO or BKSA membership
Ability to work in the UK (valid visa or otherwise)
Fluent English (Welsh could help.. you never know!)
Own vehicle for travel
Enthusiasm

Make sure you know where we work as our base is in Bristol, but we mainly teach in Somerset and South Wales.

Earn up to £20/hr
Use the latest kit by Ozone and Flexifoil
Teach via radio
Staff prices on personal kit
